Feature! CLINTON NLRB NOMINATION Union Lawyer To Take Over At NLRB Official Press Release - From The White House Implications and Questions - Can the FOX guard the Chicken Coop?? |
Here is what the UAW President had to say about the Page nomination to the NLRB... UAW President Stephen P. Yokich Comments on the Nomination of Leonard R. Page as General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board Leonard Page has a long and distinguished career as a labor attorney. He has a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest and fairest minds working in the field of labor law. Leonard has served as an Associate General Counsel of the United Auto Workers since 1970, and has developed substantial expertise in a wide range of topics relating to labor-management relations. Leonards years of experience in dealing with legal issues facing working families, and his expertise in helping to build a legal foundation for constructive labor-management relationships make him an excellent choice to serve as General Counsel of the NLRB. We are pleased and honored that Leonard is being considered for this important position. (Quoted from UAW press release Thursday, February 11, 1999) Try as we might, we were unable to find any comment on the Internet or elsewhere on the side of business and the employer regarding this nomination. It seems that the announcement has not been met with as much enthusiasm in the business world as it has in the labor movement. In summary, such a powerful position being occupied by such a blatantly partisan person on the side of labor seems to be a development of far reaching consequences for labor relations in the future. The way that this pro-labor UAW attorney will probably "sneak in through the back door" without Senate confirmation says something about the nature of this whole situation. Perhaps Mr. Clinton's idea of "bi-partisanship" and "neutrality" differs somewhat from some of "the American people" who seek to garner a fair hearing in legitimate differences between the labor movement and employers.
Whatever the case, you will most likely hear a deafening silence about this issue ... until Mr. Page begins assigning cases, throwing out cases... and making decisions that will affect us all for many years to come.
